The second celebration of International Babywearing Week is scheduled for 21st -- 28th September 2009, with the theme “Close Enough to Kiss.” What a fab theme to choose -- one of the best things about babywearing is being able to cuddle and kiss your baby!
Babywearing International, the non-profit organisation behind International Babywearing Week, have a mission to promote babywearing as a universally accepted practice, with benefits for both child and caregiver, through education and support, and this is why they, in conjunction with TheBabywearer.com, organise a week of celebrations around the world. They reply on local groups following their lead, to arrange their own meets, and to celebrate, promote, and advocate the many benefits of babywearing. International Babywearing Week is also an occasion to focus media attention on this beautiful and beneficial practice.
There may already be a meet or event taking place near you, but if not, why not arrange an event of your own? It can be as simple as a meeting to show off your slings, or organise a demonstration to encourage other mums to try babywearing out. Whatever you choose, try to get your local media involved to make the most of the celebration, and let as many people as possible know what you are doing, and why it’s great to wear your baby! Remember, if you do know of an event taking place, then please let us know so we can add it to our map of babywearing groups.
And just in case you need any reminding of how great babywearing is, take a look at this video:
We’d love to feature your event, so please drop us a line with your photos, and details of what you got up to. Happy IBW09!
