If you are in doubt as to which type of sling is for you, have you considered the idea of hiring a few to try out at your leisure?
There are a couple of sling companies which offer this service, and it’s a great way to test the waters.
Sling Jax offers a two week hire period for just £12.99 (plus refundable deposit), and have a huge range of ring slings, mei tais and wraps to choose from.
Slumber Roo have a lovely selection available to hire, for £10.99 fo two weeks. You can then either claim your deposit back, or use it towards a purchase if you find a sling you like. In addition, Slumber Roo are offering 5% off their usual prices to anyone who has previously hired a sling, throughout 2009.
If hiring a sling is not an option for you, then why not contact Sling Meet and find your local group? They are usually very happy to meet up and encourage new mums, providing first hand experience and advice. Depending on your area, there might already be a group, but if not, you could always try setting one up yourself!
One last thing, remember that if you buy online, your purchases are protected by the Distance Selling Regulations, which means that you are allowed to send any item back within 7 days, provided it is in perfect, unused condition.
